Bar Beach sits just north of Merewether and is a slightly more sheltered beach break that works well in smaller to moderate swells. Facing ESE, it catches SE swells and northeast windswell and is popular with beginner and intermediate surfers who find Merewether too heavy. Well-used by Newcastle locals with active surf club patrols.
